Check-in Poem |Group 2
I have come here
Because the world calls me
To lift up health in a rapid world
Called to bring meaning and gratitude
Slows us down with an attitude that flows in a way that
Helps us hear, helps us reflect
Helps us build an effective way
To lead with a smile
To make change in the smallest ways
A rearrange the expectations of upheaval
So we can create the conditions
That make the strange
Familiar, familial.
To bring the leader in each person to the fore
To organize against a world that slams the doors
On our own agency, that deprives us
Of our chance to make history
As we navigate the mystery
Of dialogue that helps us slog through
The culture that stifles us
The currents that buffet us
The temporary messages that tell us
We’re not enough.
I want to work through the fear
That I can do this work here
To stay in the discomfort long enough
To find the stuff that matters
The tips and tricks that help me stick with it
To support learning and the burning
Call to return to the human need to discern
How to use power to help the helpers
To find the ways to educate for a change
Expand my range of how we exchange
The knowledge and story that
Cuts through the busy and dizzying
Rate of work
Silence gives me the chance the think
But I don’t want to shrink from
Sharing what helps us link ourselves together
To host a group to see
That they are enough, to find their way
To being free, inside and outside
And in all the ways we can possibly be humans together.
Convening makes it possible to raise the stakes
Like thunderstorms and earthquakes
Like rivers and great lakes
We do what it takes
To shake it up.
Check-in Poem | Group 1
This is relational
Because healthy workplaces and work spaces
Are inspirational
And I need more
Tools and confidence to school our influence
To be in reflections on connections
In each context that I meet,
In each conflict that my feet
Carries me too, through a long career
To the day I retire and beyond,
I can see all the ways that conversation
Brings meaning to our days together
Not just in difficult places
But in the spaces where we face our limitations
Where we are called to lift each other to invitations
To be our best selves.
I’m here to build in the dialogue that
Describes the travelogue of our journey towards trust
Building relationships because we must
Work with the capacity that lengthens
The reach we have that can speak the
Dignity of capacity into being
To move beyond reaction to proactive interaction
To develop a satisfaction in my practice
That builds safety and relationality.
The tradecraft is communication and convening
Growing seeds that scatter nourishment that feeds
leadership and participation
That moves us to action
And sustained leadership in changing context
To build life and not burn out
To join with the effort
To ask the questions that foster understanding
In the discussion that follows
Not to dissuade, but to persuade us all
To work for maximum impact
Without jumping to the end of the work
Sacrificing the meaningful part
For a rush to start the next thing.
Leave no one behind
Let your work land and find the
Story that weaves the flowering diverse skills
Into new power
Gathered here to serve
In a context of curveballs that
We just have to hit.
So let’s get at it.
